Achieving
excellence in business is never an easy feat.
Especially when you do it while maintaining your
core business values, and walking-the-talk of
your Mission Statement. Schrodt Designs, Inc.,
located in Ashland, Oregon, is a fine example
of doing just that. In the business of designing
and producing hand-crafted wildlife garden products
for the past eighteen years, Schrodt Designs has
established itself as the best-in-the-business
among its loyal wholesale and retail customers.
Schrodt
Designs has garnered its reputation offering stellar
wildlife products including the: Classic
Songbird Lantern, Hummingbird
Lantern, and Misty
Bird Bath. In 2002 - 2003 Schrodt Designs
introduced a new bird feeder collection featuring
original etchings from artist and co-owner Gary
Schrodt. Gary's unique images transformed a selection
of Schrodt's best-selling Teahouse
Songbird Feeders and Hummingbird
Lanterns into fanciful reflections of the
Native American crafts he was inspired by. Furthering
the creative muse Roz Schrodt, co-owner and Marketing
Director, collaborated with Woodstock Percussion's
Stacey Bowers to produce the Harmony
Songbird Lantern Feeder/Chime, the perfect
blend of sound, form, and function. The Schrodt
Designs catalog includes other timeless designs
for the backyard wildlife sanctuary such as bird,
butterfly, and Mason bee houses.
Roz
says, "We continue to do what we do because we
love it". She continues, "Gary and I maintain
an intense pace to keep things going, creating
new designs, implementing creative marketing strategies,
adding new accounts, and servicing our existing
customers. We don't look back, staying focused
and attentive are the keys to our success".
Schrodt
Designs lives up to its own high standards, continuing
to manufacture their wildlife garden products
on American soil out of recycled and reclaimed
materials, using a local artisan labor force.
Gary Schrodt says, "The pressures on American
designers and hand-crafters are tremendous. We
are competing for very limited retail dollars,
yet we've been able to continue to hand-craft
our products and still keep our price-point within
the same range as our competitors." Gary goes
on to say, "We're different and we like it that
way. Our production processes don't create environmental,
or material wastes, and we haven't sold to the
mass merchandisers." That's what their customers
want and that's what they pride themselves on
providing.
In
Roz's words, "Gary and I set out 18 years ago
to make the best birdfeeders on the market, hand-crafting
them in our studios in ways that matched our core
social and environmental values. We have come
a long way since that moment of inception, exceeding
many of the goals we set for ourselves". Smiling
she continues, "Gary and I are survivors and we
are really proud of our company and the team that
works for us - we will be in this game for years
to come." Gary chimed in, "If we have done nothing
else, we've stayed loyal to our roots and consistent
within our values - we care about this earth and
how we will leave it for future generations."
Undeniably, Schrodt Designs, Inc. represents one
of the remaining mainstays of what is meant by
"Hand-crafted in USA".
